Using the right light. When buffing, it is very important you're using the right light for what you're doing. A wool pad gets the sanding scratches out, and just as importantly, is what gets the tight grain look out of the clear. So something like fluorescent light, that's not as intense, works great since it allows you to see the texture better. To remove scratches & swirls from the wool pad, something like this LED spot light works great, since the light is concentrated in one spot, it reflects light off of any scratches. Also, too much light isn't good either.
